Dr. Staples serves as the Chair of the Actuarial Educators Council and is the Actuarial Program Director at Texas Christian University. Sue has served for the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in various committees and volunteer roles. She has received multiple teaching awards including the TCU Dean’s and Texas Section MAA Teaching awards as well as the prestigious TCU Wassenich Award for Mentoring.
Dr. Paris, Coordinator of Actuarial Science at Florida State University, began his journey in mathematics at FSU in 1988. After earning his PhD from LSU, he worked as an actuarial consultant before returning to academia. Passionate about teaching, he emphasizes student success and career preparation in his program.
Dr. Marchand earned his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of Virginia in 1996. After post-doctoral work, he taught at SUNY Fredonia before joining Slippery Rock University in 2003. He is now a professor and chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department, recognized for his teaching excellence.
Dr. Guan earned her Ph.D. in Financial Mathematics from Florida State University in 2011 and joined DePaul University in 2020. She previously served as an Associate Professor at Indiana University Northwest. Currently, she directs Actuarial Science programs and researches financial mathematics, focusing on asset pricing and systemic risk.
Marco V. Martinez is a Professor of Mathematics and Actuarial Science at North Central College. He earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Statistics in 2013. As the first official coordinator of NCC’s Actuarial Science program (2016–2021), he spearheaded curriculum development, student advising, internship coordination, and job placement.
